Medical transcription Industry has seen
growth through introduction of new technologies like voice
recognition engine (VRE), which has supported the productivity
of MTs and Quality Analysts since last few years. The question
still remains- whether it will be able to replace an qualified
and experienced MT?
In-depth understanding of the technology, its potential
and impact is essential. Going a bit deeper into the subject,
you will realize many aspects. For e.g. doctors are occupied
for most of the time in a hospital, performing surgery,
meeting patients etc. So as an MT, you might forgive a doctor
if he dictates report with errors, but do you think VRE
will be able to do that?
I heard you said "No.
Software capabilities to understand background noises, patients
voices, conversations, etc is still doubtful. Quality of
accent of doctors also depends on their energy levels at
the time of dictation. If they are tired and busy they will
never be clear. Due to advance in the field of VRE
What is stored in our future?
You need not worry! VRE's potential to identify all kind
of voices and then transcribe with desired accuracy has
still a very long way to go. It would require involvement
from doctors also if they are willing to devote time to
get trained on VRE. This takes time and can give an advantage
to doctor in future subject to doctor is consistent in his
speech, with proper dictating style and without noises or
breaks.
Still the medical report may not be 100% , NO…..
Doctors may not like to rely on VRE completely to include
the transcript for their records and would like to quickly
check through or ask someone to check it.
Using this software for our own good should be the goal
of MT. Increasing productivity and quality are the opportunities
available through this technology. It will also save time.
